Leave the busy streets and buzzing city of Ho Chi Minh City behind and drive toward the Mekong Delta by road. Upon arrival in Caibe, Embark on a boat journey out to the Caibe floating markets to discover the characteristics of local life in the delta region. It is a wholesale market where traders convene to exchange fresh produce and other commodities from their wooden sampans and then stop one of the Mekong Islands. Having a walk along back roads approximately 1 hours enjoying the scenic views… walking along narrow country lanes, passing through tiny orchards, witnessing colorful riverside life, across innumerable wooden bridges and pausing to chat with welcoming villagers. Cross a narrow canal on a local sampan and reach the motorized boat, traveling like locals across the expansive Co Chien River.
Have lunch on an island in the middle of the Mekong, followed by a visit to some home factories that produce rice paste, rice popcorn and coconut candy before returning by road back to Saigon city later afternoon
N. B.: The floating markets in the Mekong Delta are no tourist markets but wholesale markets where produce of the Mekong Delta like fruits and vegetables are traded. For this reason the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on harvesting seasons and market demand. Furthermore, modern wholesale markets are becoming more popular in Vietnam. This can result in decreasing numbers of boats being present on the markets.
